You Can Break Your Own Horse

The Ted Macklin Method

Ted Macklin was a professional trainer for over 50 years and handled many American breeds during his lifelong career as a horseman. His graduates have gone on to become champion show horses, stakes winning race horses, trail horses, backyard horses, equitation winners, etc.

In this 2-hour video, Ted Macklin teaches the horse owner how to start and develop a riding or driving horse with a willing attitude. These lessons condense a lifetime of experience into a highly successful program for training the green horse to cheerfully and willingly do what it is asked to do. After this training, the horse is ready to be a good, useful pleasure horse or to go into whatever specialized training is intended.

A Macklin trademark was to develop a good attitude in his horses, so the video course is flexible to accommodate differences in temperament between individual horses and breeds. A satisfied racehorse breeder told him, "The youngsters you break are good to handle, have sense, ride well, mouth nicely, and you have left their spirit intact." Emphasis is placed on avoiding mistakes, how to anticipate problems, and planning in advance what to do about them, should they arise.

By giving the horse owner an understanding in advance of what to do, and how and why to do it, this videotape increases the owner's confidence and control of both self and horse -- a prerequisite for successful horse training. The tape covers: halter breaking , cross-tying, picking up feet, bitting harness, ground driving, harnessing, hooking up the cart, driving tips, and riding the young horse. Points for safety and a sweet attitude are given throughout.

Available on VHS or DVD, a full two hours for $69.95
