About The Artist

Longtime Professional horseman Ted Macklin developed a love for American Saddlebred Horses as a young teenager nearly 70 years ago. As he became increasingly familiar with the breed, he studied everything about them including the various gaits. This led to numerous sketches and drawings of horses. When he was sixteen, he conceived the notion of wood burning the five gaits into a single board. Over several years he perfected his sketches, positioned them, and burned them into a work of art.The drawings represented horses known to Ted at the time.
Ted went on to become a trainer and worked for great horsemen such as Revel English, B.B. Tucker, and Bill Cunningham. He also worked at Sunset Stables before opening his own training and breeding operation. He trained and developed many notable horses including Anacacho Shamrock and Sunset Commander. For many years, having access to several extremely great animals, Ted worked to preserve and intensify the great bloodlines of the breed.

Over the years this unique artwork has been a prized family possession. Through photography and digital fine art the original has been reproduced in order to be shared with other Saddlebred lovers.
